What is CAMPS?
Community Artist and Makers Program Series (CAMPS) is an initiative of the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, offering dynamic programming including community-based education and collaboration in crafts and making.
Haystack offers diverse programs and workshops that extend beyond digital design to embrace traditional craft techniques. These activities emphasize skill development, knowledge exchange, and innovation, fostering inspiration within the local community and nurturing future makers, artists, and designers.
CAMPS’ programs include paid Project-Based Workshops & Online CAD Workshops, plus the free Make & Takes, Open Lab, and Holiday Open House.
Where is CAMPS?
The programs are held at the Center for Community Programs in Deer Isle village, located at 22 Church St.

Open Lab
Wednesdays | January 15–April 9, 2025 | 3:00–7:00 PM
Drop-in, no registration needed
Open Lab is a dedicated time to indulge in your creative pursuits. Technology Director James Rutter and Fab Lab Coordinator Phoebe Zildjian will be there working on exciting projects, and we invite you to do the same. Open Lab is a community-building program, designed to be largely unstructured and open for community members and makers to come to the Fab Lab and work on a project in the company of other makers. If you have taken a CAMPS workshop and want to come back to practice your skills in a supportive environment, then this program is for you.
Please note that no instruction takes place during this time. Participants are welcome to use any machine in the space that they feel comfortable with. We also offer access to many non-digital tools, including a sewing machine and serger.
Holiday Open House
Saturday | December 7, 2024 | 10:00 AM–2:00 PM
To kickstart the season, the Holiday Party is an open house-style event to welcome the community into our space. This will be a fun and free family-friendly event to check out what the Fab Lab is up to and to learn more about CAMPS offerings.
